Panoramic Opatija: Exploring the Best Views and How to Find Them

Opatija Riviera is one of the few regions in Croatia boasting with mesmerizing views of sea, islands and mountains from its Mount Učka, and also from neighbouring mountains, view points and scenic roadways.

Mount Učka

Mount Učka, a majestic peak in the Kvarner region of Croatia, offers breathtaking panoramic views that stretch from the Adriatic Sea to the rugged inland landscapes. Standing tall at 1,396 meters, the summit provides a unique vantage point to observe the surrounding beauty. On clear days, you can see the Istrian Peninsula the islands of the Kvarner Bay, and even the peaks of the Italian Alps. The lush greenery of Učka Nature Park adds to the scenic allure, making it a perfect spot for hikers and nature enthusiasts seeking both tranquility and awe-inspiring vistas.

You can get to Učka Nature Park from Ičići and Opatija in 30 minutes driving distance. If you are going from Ičići – turn off the main road at the shop in the centre of Ičići, continue driving through Poljane to Veprinac, and then follow the brown signs that will lead you to the Park. If you are going from center of Matulji head towards Bregi and Veprinac and then also follow the brown signs that will lead you to the Park.

Veprinac View Point

Perched high above the coastal town of Opatija, Veprinac View Point is a hidden gem offering spectacular views of the Adriatic Sea and the Kvarner Bay. Veprinac is a charming hilltop town known for its rich heritage and significant cultural and historical landmarks. The most notable of these is the Church of St. Mark, distinguished by its impressive bell tower.

You can access the old part of town by going through the town gate, which has three arches and is situated in the former municipal building. To the right of the gate stands the loggia, while on the left is St. Anne’s Chapel, featuring an inscription from 1442.

A real gem of Veprinac, located 519 meters above Opatija and once a well-fortified city, is certainly the Ethnographic Collection. It is filled with tools, furniture, and all necessities, all excellently preserved, giving a vivid impression of the lifestyle of the people of that time.

To reach Veprinac by car – from Ičići you can get there by going by the store Konzum and following a Poljanska cesta road and continuing by road Jurovići. To get there from Opatija – follow the road to Pobri and than on the crossroad in Mihotići turn left and follow the signs for Veprinac.

Trsat Castle View Point

Trsat Castle, situated above the center of Rijeka, is a historic lookout that combines cultural heritage with stunning views of Rijeka center, Kvarner Bay and its islands Cres and Krk. Trsat Castle is a strategically positioned lookout situated on a hill 138 meters above sea level, overlooking the city of Rijeka. This amazing oasis boasts new amenities and activities, including a visual arts gallery, open-air summer concerts, and theater performances.

You can get there from the center of Rijeka, folow the road for Trsat and park your car in the center or in the parking of Dvorana Mladosti sports and music hall.
